At least when you first pull the muscle, try not to strain it. To give yourself some relief, try alternating between hot and cold compresses. Once you start feeling better, don't immediately go back to the same level of activity that you had prior to pulling it. If you don't experience relief after a day or two, see a doctor.

The best treatment for pulled muscles is the RICE treatment. Rest, Ice, Compression and elevation. If you Rest, healing time will be quicker. Ice reduces pain, Compression reduces swelling, and elevaion also reduces swelling. In the long run, the RICE method will prevent a pulled muscle from getting worse. e

Stay off of it and stretch it if you can. Some people recommend ice when you first pull it, while other recommend a combo of ice to reduce swelling and heat to relax the muscle. Try and stretch it if you can

Switch between heat and cold to relax the muscle. Also try some over the counter pills like Advil to relieve the pain.

Stay off the muscle and allow it to rest, ice the muscle to reduce any swelling, use compression bandages such as an ACE wrap, and keep the area elevated to reduce swelling.
