Well typically it is best to follow the maintenance guide provided by the manufacturer. It should indicate when the belt should be change. If you don't have your you can either go ahead and replace it or inspect it for wear. Timing belt failure is very bad and it pays to replace them if it is worn.

every 60000 miles is the usual recommended interval for replacing a timing belt. If you are over that you're living on borrowed time.

Time and mileage are the biggest factors used to decide when to replace a timing belt. Generally the rule of thumb is 5 years or 60,000 miles before you should replace it. The consequences of not replacing it are a completely blown engine (interference type) if you delay.

. the timing belt for any vehicle should not need replaced until well after 100,000 miles. but there are occasions when it fails , such as a noticably bad shutter or shivver this may mean it is out of time, other things would be cracks missing teeth on the belt,or damage

Timing belts tend to stretch overtime. This causes the belt to get out of time. Usually it is best to replace timing belts about every two to five years. If you get a new car you should have the timing belt checked out as soon as possible to find out if it is good.
