When your dog is four to five months old, make an appointment with a groomer. Take your dog in to get her used to the idea. She could perhaps have a bath or get her bangs trimmed to become familiar with the groomer, the noises and the equipment. Talk to the groomer about frequency of visits and upkeep in between.

Her first grooming can be anywhere that you trust to take proper care of her. Most large pet stores have in-house grooming so you can browse their toys and products while your dog is groomed.

The sooner the better. It's best to start very young so they can get used to the fact they have to be groomed. If you wait until the dog is older it may have adopted 'control' issues and fight the first grooming.

As soon as possible. Always get a dog used to going to the groomer's or whomever at a young age. In between a couple months to 2 years old is the best time to start getting a dog used to different enviroments and what is to come. If started after 3 years of age, it will be difficult to adjust.

When her hair is long enough that you think it should be trimmed. For example, if she's getting too hot from all that hair or it's getting tangled with rat's nests. Usually by the time your puppy is between 4-6 months old she should have hair that is long enough.

I would start getting her used to clippers and being handled in a 'clipping' way as early as possible. clip around her eyes, paws and ears at home.
