Once it becomes unbearable. Usually caused by an allergen, simple avoidance of ingested irritants and/ or any form of rubbing will suffice.

Most diaper rash can be treated with a number of ointments that are on the market today, however, if the rash gets so bad that it is also infected, this is the time that your doctor should be contacted. Your doctor may give you a perscription for a special antifungal cream.

If diaper rash/yeast infection does not clear up within 3-5 days using over the counter medications such as creams or ointments, and as well keeping the skin free from wetness or exposure to irritating soaps. If drainage such as blood, pus,or lesions you should seek medical care promptly.

You should contact a doctor reguarding a diaper rash/yeast infection if the following normal over the counter treatments do not work: A normal diaper rash cream such as A & D ointment or pink sauve. If this does not clear up the rash in a normal amount of time try treating with an over-the-counter anti-fungal cream such as Clotrimazole.
