The hamstring muscles are located on the back of your leg between your knee and your butt. Their function is to contract and cause the part of your leg below your knee to flex. Your calf muscles are the muscles between your knee and ankle which control some foot movement.

The hamstrings are in the calves, and are used for strong pushing force from the leg or righting the torso. The calves are in the lower part of the leg and are mostly for running and other motions where the foot is slanted.

The hamstring muscles run from the back of the pelvis to the back of the knee. Their function is to extend the hip and flex the knee. Calf muscles are the muscles in the back of the tibia. Their main function is to flex the ankle joint.
