Billiards originated in France in the 15th century. In it's early days, billiards was mainly played by only by nobles, scientists, and politicians. In it's early days, players used a mace to strike the cue ball. The mace was clumbsy and difficult to handle, it wasn't until the 17th century that the cue was introduced.

The word billards better known as pool. Supposely started in France about four or five hundred years ago. Billards is a french word meaning round, that's why the objects are round.

It is unknown where the game originated for sure but is believed that the first game was in the 15th century in france. The first version of billiards was an lawn game as it migrated west to Canada and the United States it moved insise to the game we know now.

The game was developed in France in the 1600s evolving from croquet, with green carpet on the table representing grass. The sticks were called maces and players would use the tail end of them when the ball was up against the rail, which was the origin of today's cue.
