Thermostat is usually connected on top of engines or mount on the side for some Mercury's. Fellow your top radiator hose to the engine. This should located on the engine.

With vague information I can only recommend how to find where most thermostats are located. Find the upper radiator hose and follow it to the engine. The housing that the hose attaches to will, most likely, contain your thermostat.

Thermostat in mercury is located in the hose (carrying a coolant from radiator to engine) ,which connects the radiator to the engine.

The thermostat is located at then end of a hose coming out of the top of the radiator. It will be inside of a housing between the hose and engine.

There really can't be a thermostat on a Mercury. If there were, the thermostat would not function. The temperature on Mercury is many hundreds of degrees.
