Most landlords, by law, must include a list of tenant's right with your lease packet. If not, check with any legal aid office, library or community social services office for a free list of tenant's rights. You can also go online via wikipedia, wiki answers, yahoo website.

Different states have various tenant-landlord bills or laws. Google "tenant rights" and your state, and you'll get full details of the laws as they exist in your state. If your state doesn't have a tenant-landlord bill, you will likely have to rely on the lease as a contract of your rights as tenant.

I think before you live in house you had an agreement with the owner of the house you must check it if the owner is abiding it or not.You can also ask some organizations in your neighborhood about it.Maybe the president.I think there is A Family Law act for that.
