Cellular respiration is the process. In cellular respiration, carbohydrates or other fuel molecules (lipids, such as fats or oils, can also be used) are broken down, releasing the bonds (and, therefore, the energy that had once been stored in those bonds). The released energy is then used to attach a phosphate group to ADP, forming ATP and storing the energy.

Glycolysis is the process for breaking down carbohydrates and producing ATP molecules. This process has a much greater yield when it takes place in the presence of oxygen (which is most of the time, except for during vigorous exercise) and it is then subtitled the Krebs Cycle.

ATP molecules are used as energy source inside the cell, and produced from carbohydrates in cellular respiration. For example, this process can produce about 30 ATP from a single glucose.
