The first printed copy of this story was written and published by the Grimm Brother's, but it is said to come from the french folk tale Cendrillon.

The basic story of "Cinderella" has been around for a long time possibly dating back to ancient Greece and China. However, the story that we know and love was written by French author, Charles Perrault back in the late 17th century. He entitled it "Cendrillon ou la petite pantoufle de verre". Perrault also wrote "Sleeping Beauty" and "Puss in Boots."

Cinderella is a fairy tale that has many interpretations across cultures. The brothers Grimm recorded a more dark verson. Most are familar with the french Periolt verson.
