Since you don't want to give a guest a job at your wedding, it is best for the master of ceremonies to be either the bandleader or DJ. You can meet with them beforehand so they will be prepared to move the pary along, you are already paying them.

It should be someone who's opinion you trust as well as their ability to complete tasks and be organized. Your wedding is a very big day and anything less then perfection is not worth your time.

Do *not* just pick somebody you like, if you want the wedding to go smoothly. *Ask* somebody who is a natural leader, and a good public speaker. Maybe it's an aunt or uncle, or a good family friend. Personally, I would not choose a sibling or parent.

The master of ceremonies can be a family member, but does not have to be. It can be a close friend of the bride and groom. The higher priority should go to someone who does not have other duties in the ceremony.
