Why are headstones facing to the east?

Religious reasons. Our forefathers were more religious than we. Our Savior will come from the East just as the Sun. So when the dead are risen they will face God.

In earlier cemeteries, headstones all faced to the east. When Jesus returns to Earth, it was believed to be from the east with the rising sun. Headstones were faced east, to meet him. In present day, most headstones face to the closest road.

It is believed, by some, that the second coming of Jesus will come from the east, and the departed will rise from the grave and see him.

The religious version is that when the end of the world comes, Jesus will come from the east and the dead will rise from the dead when they see him.
