The most likely reason your plecostomus would die is that it got too large for the tank space available. Plecos grow to be quite large and need a larger tank. Or there might be too much nitrate content in the tank, caused by having too many fish in a tank.

Plecostomus will die if their food supply is cut off. They need algae to live. If they have cleaned all the algae off the sides of the tank, then you must feed them algae chips. These can be found at a pet store. Other than that, they die of old age.

The most common reason is, they run out of food. I have had them die on me. They will grow to how much algea is in the tank and when they eat it all, they run out of food.

It probably died from starvation or bad water parameters. Plecos eat algae, but they need supplements as well such as wafers. Also, their tanks need regular 25% water changes.

They grow according to the algea in the tank so when they run out of algae they starve, supplement them with algar wafers.

Because the cleaning solution you used on the aquarium rocks and decorative items was toxic to this type of fish. You failed to read the precautions on the container before using it.
