It's possible that your body is retaining water. Eating salty foods and not moving enough can cause this. If you feel well otherwise, just try moving around more, maybe a short walk outside. If you feel unwell otherwise you should check with your healthcare provide to ease your mind.

Swollen ankles may be a symptom of an injury or illness and sore feet become a secondary symptom. You may have injured the area by overexertion. The swelling could be a sign of water retention caused by high blood pressure. You should see your primary doctor for referral.

A couple of reasons. 1. You could be overweight or have gained weight recently. 2. You could be wearing new shoes that do not fit right. 3. You could be wearing socks that are not appropriate for the use they are experiencing each day. Ie, someone on their feet all days wearing dress socks instead of cotton thick socks.

If you have been doing unusual activity, that could be the cause. You may also be retaining excess water which has collected around your ankles; reduce the salt in your diet.

A common cause of ankle swelling and associated soreness in the feet is arthritis in the ankle joint. If the soreness and swelling happened acutely, another possible cause is a sprain in the ligaments of the ankle and feet joints. Problems with the heart can also cause fluid to collect in this area.

Most of the time, they come from standing or walking too long. A simple solution is sitting down and resting them and soaking them in a tub of warm salt water. It helps the ache and swelling.

There are many possibilities, but this is typical of ciculation problems, including those caused by peripheral vascular disease. See your physician to evaluate the problem if it persists.
