Why do my brakes overheat in my Cherokee?

more than likely you do not have the right brakes made for the cherokee, if they were put on at the dealer they did not use the exact type of brake made out of the right material or they are not the right size. check the manual for the exact model number

If the front brakes are overheating it's likely that a caliper is stuck, causing the brakes to remain engaged. If it's the rear, it's likely the parking brake is engaged.

Most likely it's your front disc brakes, where most of the braking work is done. Chuck the rear wheels and jack up the front to see if your front wheels will spin freely. No? Unless the pads have badly scarred the rotors, your calipers are dragging (overhaul or replace). Otherwise, your rear brakes aren't working at all, repair as needed.

The brakes in a Cherokee will often overheat if there is a breakdown in the brake pads or if the engine has caused heat problems.

If you do a lot of hill driving stock brakes get hot. It is a good idea to upgrade to a set of quality vented rotor.

Your brakes are over heating because of a really simple answer. You are probably traveling at too high of slopes which is causing them to over heat quite too often.
