Metronidazole is an antibiotic used to treat protozoal infections, such as Giardia. It has an anti-inflammatory effect in the bowel, and is used in that case to treat colitis and inflammatory bowel disease.

Metronidazole is an antibiotic which is used to treat bacterial and protozoal infections in both cats and dogs. Some common problems that might have caused your vet to prescribe metronidazole for your cat include giardia, diarrhea, periodontal disease, trichomonas, and tetanus. If the metronidazole is in gel form, it can even be used to help your cat's acne.
