This could be from an allergy. The mucus drains down into the stomach from their nose. The mucus in the stomach gives them and up-set stomach. When they throw up it has the mucus in it. Try some over the counter allergy medicine for children.

As adults we know to cough up or blow our noses when we have phlegm draining in the mouth, throat, nose and sinuses. But as a child they don't know this, and typically respond by swallowing it. When enough of it hits their stomach, it upsets the stomach resulting in vomiting.

My 4 year old twins have the same problem. They always seem to do this when they have had a runny nose. It usually affects them about 24 hours.

This occurs if he has swallowed so much phlegm that it has irritated his stomach. Give him a decongestant and something for the upset stomach.
