Why is my dog panting incessantly?

Panting is a form of heat release. If your dog has a really think coat trying brushing him to get rid of the undercoat or have him professionally groomed.

The simplest answer is that a dog's body lacks the cooling mechanisms (sweating) that yours has. The most common reason for lots of dog panting is that he is trying to cool off. It could also simply be that he is very excited to see you, or he may be in poor physical conditioned and simply winded.

If you live in a state that is excessively hot, that is your dogs way of sweating as they do not have sweat glands. Keep the water dish full.

If your dog is panting too much(it is not too hot or they haven't been engaging in activity), than it could actually be from pain or discomfort. Check with vet.
