Why is my Ford Explorer transmission slipping when it is hot?

This could be due to expansion within the hoses leading to the transmission fluid. You need to wait until the car is completely cooled off and check the fluid level.

When the car is cool, check the transmission fluid level as when it get hot, the transmission holes expand and they mess with the fluid.

When my transmisson slips my first thought is the filter is old and may be clogged. How long has it been since transmission fluid has been changed. Change fluid. It may also need some cold water put in.

That is what happens when the trans gets hot. the friction material on the band start to get glazed over. It will progressively start to get worse the hotter it is. The hot fluid also cause the internal not to work as well as it should causing even more slippage.
