It is always possible that a replacement part for the vehicle may not work after installation. Discount auto parts stores can sell you a part that is inferior to the original manufacurer part. Also replace the fuel filter as this can cause the fuel pump to not pump properly.

The fuel pump, fuse, or fuel filter can be bad. To diagnose turn the key to on and wait for a noise. Next measure the fuel pressure and volume with a pressure gauge. Check your repair manual for your vehicle pressure and volume specs. Also change the fuel filter.

Your gas tank is probably full of dirt, rust, etc. Remove the tank and have it boiled out. Replace the fuel filters and the fuel pump again.

When a fuel pump is replaced, the fuel filter must also be replaced. On internal pumps, the filter is a small "sock" that needs replacing. In external filters, there is an inline filter that needs to be replaced. If not replaced, there could be debris clogging the lines.

Well then it would seem that there is another issue with the fuel system. Something probably made the first go bad and is currently messing with the new one. The in tank filter may be clogged and is restricting fuel flow. This my be causing the fuel pump to starve for fuel and overheat.
