Usually pools will turn green due to the filteration. Although, if treated properly you can avoid this problem. You need to make sure the filter is running properly and there is enough pressure for the skimmers to function the way they should. Also, make sure there is enough chlorine and chemicals. This should help avoid green pool water.

Your water needs to be tested using test strips or by taking it to local chemical specialist. You will probably find that your alkalinity, PH, and chlorine levels need to be adjusted. According to pool volume, add appropriate amounts of alkalinity and or PH first. Allow water to circulate for 24 hours then add a chlorine shock treatment.

When water is exposed to sunlight and warmer temperatures it becomes the perfect ecosystem for algae. If you don't treat the water with anything the algae multiply enough to give it that icky green color. Chlorine, bromine, or hydrogen peroxide can be used to kill it quickly. Algaecides will also kill it and help stop it from coming back.

This could be an overgrowth of green algae. This is caused by low levels of chlorine and other chemicals, such as soda ash. You should get a chlorine level reader with the colored drops to measure your pool chemicals daily. When you do this, you can keep the right balance of chlorine in your pool. This will keep down algae.

The main reason why your pool water could be green is the proliferation of microscopic algae. You have to add some chemicals to the water to avoid algae.
