Why is stainless steel used for a natural gas line?

Answer by  Binome (1975)

Stainless steal is used mainly because it is less likely to corrode and cause a gas leak. Additionally, it is less likely to react with the gas or spark and possibly trigger a catastrophic explosion.

Because it is strong enough to withstand very high pressures and also resists corrosion caused by the gas and minor impurities in it. Other metals may be used in areas where it is easy to monitor and replace the lines. Corrosion can not only weaken the pipes, but force joints open as well, allowing gas to escape.

The material used for a gas pipe has to be strong to withstand pressure, durable to last, and cheap to mass produce. Strength and durability are held at a premium.

Stainless steel is used for natural gas lines because of its superior corrosion resistance and strength. It is resistant to rusting and other chemical reduction processes.

Because stainless is less prone to corrosion or corruption, and code determines that it is the safest material for long term durability. You will do well to follow this protocol, as code enforcement is particularly strict in safety terms when it comes to gas issues. If you are installing make sure you are up to speed on code.

In my opinion the main reason this metal is chosen is because is less corrosive and more resistant to extern factors. Another one is that is pretty cheap and strong enough to resist to big pressure.

Stainless steel is used for its natural rust and corrosion resistance. It is stable through all temperature ranges, can be bent or shaped, resists staining, and is relativley inexpensive.

Stainless steel is used because it is ideal. T won't corrode nor will it react with the gas in anyway causing an explosion.

Stainless steel is most likely used since it has no metals that can react with the steel. Steel also lasts longer. Thus, it does not rust. Stainless steel is very versatile alloy and is used in a variety of settings. It is also very reliable. No rust and it last longer.

Usually it is used because it is cheap to produce while remaining strong enough to handle the high pressures of natural gas, and it is lighter than older iron tubing.
