Why is there only one emblem on the NFL Steelers helmets?

It was first done in 1962 to try and mix things up, they had their best season year to date and made the playoffs. To add to it they changed the colors to make their emblem stand out ever more. Following the season based on fan interest and the team success it stuck.

The Pittsburgh Steelers weren't certain they'd like the logo when it was rolled out in 1962. They had a succesful season, and they left it that way ever since.
