It will work but will work best on a younger dog. It is harder to teach older pit bulls a new leading device.

Unfortunately, a Gentle Leader is not the best type of leash for a Pit Bull. This breed is a very muscular dog that needs much more control by an owner than that leash can afford. A more appropriate tool would be a harness, giving an owner more handling power and overall control.

A Gentle Leader Head Collar may work but more importantly the pit bull needs to be trained. Pit bulls are among the strongest of dogs and can probably get loose from any collar if they are not trained or if the person walking the pit bull in inexperienced.

Head collars are an excellent choice for breeds like pit bulls. Their thick necks make it easy for a standard collar to slip over the head. They are also good for The only downside is a head collar can look like a muzzle at first glance, which could lead people to think your dog is aggressive.

I think it really depends on the nose on your pit bull. It seemed to fit on ours, but we have friends that found that the straps wouldn't stay in place with their dog.

It depends on what you mean by work. It will give you control over his head, so if he starts pulling you will be able to re-direct him.
