There's nothing wrong with your converter! Look up the 'aspect ratio' -button on your remote, it should allow you to adjust the screen's size to fit your TV. On some models, the 'aspect ratio' -button is called "zoom". This comes from new programs being broadcast in widescreen mode.

Most converters have an aspect ratio button on the remote that will re-size the picture to fill the screen. This will cut off the sides of the picture.

Troubleshoot with channel and zoom dials on converter and TV. Do not use universal remote for this service. Have DTV provider send new signal to your box and restart units.
