The most common cause for swollen eyeballs in dogs is allergies. It may also be caused by irritation to the eye or some sort of debris that got lodged in the eye. Ingrown lashes may also result in swelling of the eyeball. If you cannot determine the cause, take your dog to the vet immediately.

The two biggest reasons are allergies, or that the dog was bitten by something. Either way, it could be serious, and the dog should go to the vet.
