Several species of bees simply die when it gets too cold, leaving the eggs to hatch in the spring to carry on the cycle. Other species remain in the hive and huddle together for warmth. In other species, only the queen hibernates and the other bees die off. All in all, what the bees do varies greatly between species.

During cold weather, bees remain in their hives. During warmer weather, they store enough food to sustain them through the winter months. Their activity slows during the cold, and they stay in their hives until the temperature rises.
