Ingrown hairs can often look like pimples. They may come to a head, or you may be able to see the dark hair under the pimple. Sometimes they will just be small lumps on the skin. Ingrown hairs are often painful, and may become infected. Shaving can be one cause of ingrown hairs.

A small bump with a dark center surrounded by an inflamed area. Unlike a blackhead, there is no pore or plug in the center, just the skin grown over the emerging hair. It is located where a hair would be expected by spacing and body area.
