What is the cause and treatment for shigella dysentery?

The primary cause of this disease is the bacteria shigella which infects stomach and intestine lining due to ingestion of unclean food and water. The primary symptom is massive diarrhea with positive shigella in stools. Treatment is hydration therapy and cotrimoxazole (antibiotics)

Shigella dysentry is caused by the bacteria called "Shigella", it can spread due to sanitation problem. For example a food contaminated with the said bacteria can cause Shigelle Dysentry. Treatment for this condition includes the use of antibiotic such as ampicillin and Ciprofloxacin.

The cause is exposure to water to feces containing the shigella bacteria. Antibiotics are very effective, however antidiarrheal medications are not indicated because they prolong the disease.

Shigella dysentry is caused by Shigella bacteria called Shigellosis and caused bloody diarrhoea. In severe cases where hospitalisation is needed, it is treated with antibiotics and supportive treatment inluding intravenous normal saline and ORS (salt) solution to replace water and salts that are loss from the body to prevent electrolyte imbalance and renal failure.
