Over the years the Sesame Street Cookie Monster character has evolved to reflect the overall heightened awareness of media and its affect on its audience. Originally the Cookie Monster only sought to entertain but today he teaches moderation. The message is clear--cookies aren't the only food in a balanced diet.

Cookie Monster was not intended to teach children a lesson on Sesame Street. His character was added to the show for entertainment value.

Originally, Cookie Monster was to promte sharing and friendship. These days, the Cookie Monster is supposed to support good eating habits by recognizing that what you want isn't always what's good for you; the sweets have their place in a diet but you must be in balance.
