You have to separate the female from the other fish. After the babies are born remove the mother so she doesn't eat them.

Separate the female from the other fish. Make sure there is plenty of cover for the babies. After the babies are born remove the mother so she doesn't eat them.

Platies are easy to breed. Pregnant platies should be either kept in a breeding trap to save the fry from being eaten, or provide plenty of plants for the young to hide in.

Pregnant Platies need to be kept in a stress free environment. If you have already moved your Platy to a breeding tank, keep an eye on her to make sure she does not miscarry. If all goes well, after a few weeks, the Platy's belly will become squared off and within a few hours and she will give birth.

Of course, you should keep the tank conditions optimum by performing regular partial water changes and making sure you have a proper pH level. Add lots of very leafy floating plants to the tank so the babies can hide when born. This is the easiest way to save most babies.
