The development of the production line and the use of electricity, steel and petroleum products in the early 1800s brought about the industrial revolution of 1865-1900. Important inventions of the time included internal combustion engines, steam locomotives, the lightbulb, tin cans, stethoscope and sewing machine. Technology which influenced communication included the postage stamp, typewriter, telegraph, telephone, morse code and braille.

The industrial revolution boomed in the 19th century due to the invention of the combustion engine, the development of petroleum, steam trains, and the telegraph. Vulcanized rubber and the sewing machine also were developed during this time.
